There is nothing outside the text

This is a caricature of the late philosopher, Jacques Derrida who is (in)famous for the sentence: 'There is nothing outside the text'. I will try to explain my understanding of this enigmatic sentence in a future post.

Philosophy and Politics

This is a blog about the role of what has come to be described as 'contintental philosophy' in the transformation of post-apartheid South Africa. The aim is to create critical dialogue on the understanding of 'transformative' concepts such as reconciliation, forgiveness, reparation, amnesty and so on. Continental philosophy has played an important role in the formulation (and continuous understanding) of these concepts as they relate to each other. For this reason, philosophy matters in South Africa today. But philosophy has always been closely linked to politics and the political sphere. Since the time (at least) of Plato's Republic, philosophy has, in a certain sense, directed politics. This blog is thus also a (cyber)space for politics and aims for critical consideration of what it means to live a political life in South Africa today.
